Regional Style | Transform Your Look With a Scarf

by Jen Munoz, Regional Style Contributor – Texas | While everyone else is transitioning to fall, those of us in Texas are still looking at ways to beat the heat and look fashionable. We are all O-v-e-r (with a capital O) our summer wardrobe staples, however we can’t wear any of our new fall duds quite yet, for fear of heatstroke and let’s be honest – whomever said, “I don’t sweat, I sparkle” did NOT live in Texas in the summer. So, what’s a girl to do to punch up her outfits until temperatures decrease? Accessorize! Scarves are one of the most versatile items in your closet, ladies. So, recently I’ve been dragging them all out, and adding a pop of color to my everyday look.

Here are just a few great ways to kick up the wardrobe heat until the weather cools off with scarves.

  1. In[vest] in some playful printed scarves. An easy way to change up those white jeans you’ve been wearing all summer is to add a quick pop of color in an unexpected way. Choose a scarf that’s lightweight and airy and turn it into a vest. If you head indoors to A/C land, you can easily untie it and wrap it around your shoulders for extra warmth. I’ve worn this scarf to the pool, out with the girls, to client meetings and even to carpool.

Look for scarves with fall tones and a burst of color – they’ll easily transition into next season. Try one of these — a turquoise animal print or a leopard and neon combo for extra flair.

  1. Shrug it off. Use an infinity scarf to spruce up an outfit by adding a splash of color. Instead of wearing it the traditional way wrapped around your neck, try slipping your arms through to make a fun little shrug. Again, select a scarf that’s made from a super lightweight, breathable fabric and you’re set to go! (Stylist Tip: This jumpsuit is seriously one of THE most comfortable and versatile items in my closet and yes, friends it IS pajamas, but don’t tell anyone else or our secret will get out. Or, too late for that?)

  1. You’re knot worthy. You might think those brightly-colored jeans have nearly run their course. They’ve been paired with heels, flats, and enough blue and white stripes to rival any sailor’s wardrobe. For an easy transitional look, try adding nude accessories to start pulling in the earthly tones of fall in a chic and subtle way.
