Angela’s Lab | A Summer State of Mind

Summer is all about having fun and this season the fashion world has jumped 110% on board with highly-embellished accessories and clothing. From ruffles and cut-outs to fringes and pom-poms, you’ve heard me say this before — minimalism has taken a back seat to maximalism. Everything is pretty and bold, and even better, it’s hard to overdo an outfit right now. Fashion started down this road a few years ago with loads of print mixing and has transitioned into a full-blown “look at me” attitude. We’re seeing a ton of ’80s influence happening, which — let’s face it — was the original decade of fun, opulence and “bigger is always better.” Remember all the big hair, shoulder pads and designer logo everything??? Okay, we haven’t swung the pendulum that far, but the message here is — personal style is king and it’s time to embrace your creative instinct.

My look is as much about the accessories — these statement sandals tho! — as it is about the ruffled cold-shoulder top. Everyone can wear this flattering blouse! It works for any age and body type, plus looks amazing with a skirt or denim. I always appreciate versatile separates that I can dress up or down and this is a great example. Tuck it in or leave it out. Wear it with stilettos or flats. Plus, emerald green is flattering on so many skin tones. This seemingly dressy top looks right at home with my denim shorts, which are on rotation right now because they go anywhere, with anything. This under $20 (!) hat is a summer staple and easy to crush and pack. All of these pieces are PERFECT for traveling and mix ‘n matching. I recently wore this outfit on our staycation at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia. Read more about our staycation here.

Top, Alice+Olivia // Shorts, PAIGE // Sandals, Loeffler Randall (on sale!) // Hat & Cuffs, World Market // Sunglasses, Bulgari

Oh yeah, I have to agree with this, one of my favourite colours.
