The Met Gala is one of the major red carpet events of the year — the “see and be seen” must-attend fête for both the fashion and celebrity crowds, which have virtually become one and the same these days. Since the gala is for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, designers and celebrities are given free license to get creative if they chose and embrace the event’s theme, which this year honored the avant garde style of Comme des Garçons’ designer Rei Kawakubo. We saw stars like Riri, Kerry and Katy owning their haute couture creations, while others went for a more wearable, translatable-to-everyday approach. A few of our standout favorites include Johnny Depp’s daughter and Chanel muse Lily-Rose Depp in a gorgeous pink gown, mom-of-two Blake Lively bedecked in gold and feathers, and our favorite mom-next-door Reese Witherspoon looking picture perfect in a one-shoulder gown.
