When I first moved to the Valley of the Sun from the Seattle area 20 years ago, there was no Nordstrom. No Starbucks. To a born and raised Seattleite, this was distressing. Particularly the no Starbucks situation. Thankfully, within a year the first Starbucks opened not far from our house and Nordstrom at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Whew. Fast forward to today and Fashion Square has changed dramatically over the last two decades, turning into a major luxury shopping destination. And, big news, the mall is undergoing a major makeover! It's an annual tradition! I've been shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale since childhood, being a Seattle native and all. As a teen, I'd scour the look books and make out my back-to-school wish list, then hit the store on opening day. Now, my daughter and I make a day of it every year and go on the first early access day (for Nordstrom cardholders only!) -- shop, have lunch, shop, have a snack and repeat. At almost nine years old (when did that happen?!), she loves fashion as much as I do and has a definite opinion about what she likes and will or won't wear. Summer is all about having fun and this season the fashion world has jumped 110% on board with highly-embellished accessories and clothing. From ruffles and cut-outs to fringes and pom-poms, you've heard me say this before -- minimalism has taken a back seat to maximalism.
