Designer Highlight: Isy Obi of Isy B.

Designer Isy Obi of Isy B. dreamed of starting her own fashion business from the time she was a child. She grew up playing with fabrics and designing clothes in her mother’s atelier, who was a fashion designer as well. Prior to launching her business, Isy spent a number of years traveling around the world pursuing a career in finance before settling in the Cayman Islands with her husband. After struggling to find dresses and clothing that looked chic and felt comfortable in the heat of the tropics, she saw an opportunity to design a line of women’s luxury resort wear, inspired by the glamorous, carefree lifestyle in the Cayman Islands. Isy researched the best fabrics and technology to use so her clothes would be heat-tolerant and stylish at the same time. In 2014, Isy’s first collection debuted to outstanding reviews. In addition to the Isy B. collection, she creates gorgeous couture gowns for private client commissions at her studio in the Cayman Islands.

Now, with just a few collections under her belt, Isy has been chosen by the Phoenix Fashion Week team to participate in their 2016 Emerging Designer Bootcamp program. The program helps educate new designers on topics ranging from fashion industry ins & outs to selling their collections to buyers and marketing & PR. The 15 emerging designers, including Isy, will all debut their latest collections at Phoenix Fashion Week, October 13-15, 2016 at Talking Stick Resort.
