Mom Muse | Danielle Hampton

Mom to two darling toddlers, Danielle Hampton’s primary focus is on raising her boys, Henry (4) and Charlie (2). However, this talented and prolific writer also manages a highly-successful lifestyle blog, Sometimes Sweet, in addition to serving as a social media consultant for brands such as Ergobaby and Orbit Baby. Dani started her blog purely as a creative outlet after marrying her husband Hank in 2008, not realizing where her “project” would take her. As you might imagine, blogging and consulting provide the perfect gig for this stay-at-home mom, who doesn’t want to miss a moment of her children’s early years and all the special milestones that go along with this time.

A graduate of Northern Arizona University, Dani spent almost six years teaching high school English, before deciding to change her focus when she became pregnant with her first child. She and her family love to spend as much time outdoors enjoying nature and hiking as possible, which is easy since they live in the beautiful mountains of Northern Arizona. (Contrary to popular belief, Arizona is not all desert and golf courses!) The family also travels whenever they can and spends time exploring new places together. Life is good. As Dani shared with us, “It’s a full, happy life and I feel very grateful for it!” When you read her blog posts, this positive outlook is apparent and shines through in her writing, plus she’s down-to-earth and writes from her heart. A must-read for moms!

MSL:  Describe your style in five words or less.
Easy, comfortable, classic.

MSL: What inspired you to start a blog?
I’ve always been a writer, and have journaled online since the 1990s. I started this particular blog in 2008, when I was a newlywed and wanted to document this new chapter in my life.

MSL: What do you like best about blogging? The biggest challenge?
I absolutely love having a creative outlet and a place to share my thoughts. Nothing is more exciting for me than publishing something I really love and feel proud of, and have my readers connect to it. The biggest challenge would be finding the time to write!

MSL: Most exciting moment of your career so far?
I can’t really pick out a particular moment, but I would just say anytime I get to meet a blog reader in real life — those connections are the best.

MSL:  What’s the one item in your closet you can’t live without?
I would definitely say my Birkenstocks. I wear them almost everyday!

MSL: Top three clothing items or accessories you’re buying for fall?
Ankle boots, high-waisted black distressed denim, and a great hat. I’ve also been on the hunt for the perfect watch!

MSL: What is your favorite part of motherhood? Least favorite part?
Oh my goodness, my favorite part? EVERYTHING. I mean, some days are incredibly challenging, but it’s all such a beautiful journey. I would say one of the best parts of the day is when the boys wake up and I get those first morning cuddles… nothing’s better. The hardest part about motherhood would be how quickly time goes. Everyday I wish I could just hit pause for a bit. (So true!!)

MSL: Developing a unique style comes at an early age for some children. Do you let your children choose what they’re going to wear? How do you talk about getting dressed with them?
Yes! Charlie is only two so he’s just beginning to form his own opinions, but Henry at almost five is very headstrong in his likes and dislikes. I let him pick out his own clothing and he always enjoys doing so. I hope as he continues to grow and express his individuality, he always feels comfortable in his own skin and in what he loves.

MSL: What’s your best style advice for other moms out there?
If I could share one piece of wisdom I would say just wear what you love! So simple, but so true. Don’t worry about what’s cool or trendy, just wear things that bring you joy.
