Why we love it:

Doncaster got its start in 1931 as the Doncaster Collar and Shirt Company in Rutherfordton, NC. The founder, S.B. (Bobo) Tanner Jr., the son of a wealthy Southern textile manufacturer, and his wife Millie, the daughter of a successful Midwestern farmer, named the company after the town of Doncaster, England, a favorite stop on their honeymoon tour.
The Doncaster business, as we know it today, evolved from an unexpected opportunity in 1935 that transformed the familiar shirt patterns of the Doncaster Collar and Shirt Company to the fashionable shirtwaist dress. It was a call from the Junior League of Charlotte that introduced the idea of selling these fashionable designs through this organization to raise funds for its various civic projects. Doncaster launched the original direct sales of high-end fashions, with the earliest dresses being sold through the women of the Junior League, an able and energetic sales force who was in contact with a large network of women. They were some of the city’s most prominent citizens; women of elegant taste and independent means who were giving their time and energy to support projects of importance. As women in other cities began to hear of Doncaster fashions, the interest in wearing them and selling them spread quickly across the United States.
Doncaster remains true to the entrepreneurial spirit of those who sell the line and is dedicated to delivering beautiful, quality designs to customers. Founders and designers of Oli Hearts Liv, Lauren Wassner and Lindsay Kleet, met serendipitously. It began at a birthday dinner when their husbands, then soon-to-be dads, sat next to each other. By the end of dinner, they learned they had the same due date, were delivering in the same hospital, and picked matching baby names (Olivia Hayden and Oliver Hudson). Their commonalities were uncanny (down to the same Bugaboo and zodiac sign).
The moms met up soon after the kiddies were born and quickly became mommy friends, planning frequent play dates of tummy time, bubble blowing, and museum strolling. For fun, as two stay-at-home moms, they designed fashionable pins to glam up their diaper bags and strollers. A combination of a blog and an eZine, our daily posts and stories will help identify looks that work for moms and their lifestyle, streamline the shopping experience, and provide tips and tricks on how to dress best for you. MSL wants to be your source of style inspiration!
Our Dress-Up Lab will take you from day to night and help you dress for work, play and everyday. In Scoop Lab you’ll find our pick of the week, explore options for dressing high-low, and get to know our remarkable Mom Muses. Finally, in Community Lab, we showcase chic moms out and about, answer your challenging style questions, and highlight what you “can’t-miss” in the fashion-sphere.
I draw my inspiration for MSL from so many aspects of my life: my work as a fashion publicist, my fashionable girlfriends who love debating the latest trends as much as I do, my amazing husband and his always optimistic entrepreneurial spirit, and our beautiful daughter who has already been dubbed a budding fashionista by her teachers.
One of my wishes is that MSL will help moms “unite in fashion” by creating a community through the website and social media where we can share ideas and information, and ultimately, get fashionably inspired!
