Review | Dyson Airwrap Styling Tool

Let me begin by saying I am a huge fan of Dyson products in general. I’ve owned at least three of their vacuums and the pricey Dyson Hair Dryer is a game changer. I love it! And, so do my husband and daughter. Worth the $400 price tag. (Read my review.) Needless to say, I was excited to try the new Dyson Airwrap — hair dryer, straighter and curler all-in-one. I received it as a Christmas gift and couldn’t wait to check it out. It comes in a terrific case and there are several attachments that are easy to put on and take off. I read tips on how to use it and proceeded to try it several times. On my hair, our daughter’s hair… at different temperatures, with the different attachments.

I was primarily interested in achieving curls and/or waves, and saving time by drying and curling all at once. Sadly, the $550 Airwrap fell far short of my expectations. The worst thing about it was that it made my hair frizzy. It definitely did NOT produce a spiral curl like in the pictures and the frizzy waves didn’t hold as well as when I use my Dyson Hair Dryer and my Drybar wrap curling iron (which does not make my hair frizzy!). It also took me longer to style my hair. To top it off, the hair dryer wand in the kit as a standalone dryer doesn’t work as well as the regular Dyson hair dryer, in my opinion. Thankfully, I was able to return it.

If you read other reviews about the product, you’ll see they are mixed. Some people love it and others had experiences similar to mine. If you’ve tried the Airwrap, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

My hair as I normally style it with my Dyson hair dryer and Drybar wrap iron.
My hair after using the Airwrap… Can you see how frizzy the top layer looks?! And it didn’t improve with conditioning at home. Ugh. This picture was taken by my hair stylist at the salon before she did a deep conditioning and gloss treatment on my hair. I apologize for not having documented this experience better, but I decided to do this review after the fact.

While I’m sure the Airwrap works well for some people, it definitely didn’t for me. In the meantime, I will wait for the next generation of the Airwrap and give it another try, since I am a big Dyson fan overall!
