Angela’s Lab | Dreaming of Fall

As I write this, it is 115 degrees outside in Phoenix — we’re having an excessive heat warning! — but I am dreaming of fall… In addition to pouring over the fall fashion issues that hit my mailbox this last week, I attended the Neiman Marcus fall trend media breakfast where we were treated to an advance look at what’s ahead for the season and must-haves as chosen by Neiman Marcus’ incomparable fashion director, Ken Downing. Like the majority of fashion lovers, fall is my favorite season and I can’t wait to start wrapping myself in cashmere, brocade, velvet and tweed — all the yummy, luxurious, cool weather fabrics.

On Ken’s Fall 2015 trend list: Folklorica (the new boho), Layers, Deep Red, Winter White, Fur, Flare Pants, Saddle Bags, Edgy Ear Jewelry, Chunky Heels and Dressy Legwear. While the ’70s influence is very apparent (think flares! fringe! folksy!), the new ’70s is overall more sophisticated than the actual bygone era and more tailored than hippie. Rich shades of red and classy winter white are haute across the board in clothing, shoes and accessories. And, for those of you craving glamour, fur (faux or real) is ever-present and always the perfect touch for day or evening.

Don’t Miss Out! This Wednesday (8/19/15) is the last day for the Fall ’15 Trend Event. Spend $350 on regular-priced items online or in stores and you’ll receive a gorgeous pair of Lulu Frost earrings or cuff links for men! Just use the code FALLNM when you check out.

Folklorica. The new boho with a more global perspective, featuring accents of lace, fringe, embroidery and patchwork. Whew! Glad to see that fringe continues its haute streak as we are fully invested.

The Last Layer. Dusters (long jackets), ponchos and capes continue their outerwear reign. These styles can be on the trendy side as they come and go, but we are especially fans of the duster — who doesn’t love a great tailored jacket that doubles as outerwear? Especially this glam gold brocade version by Alice+Olivia.

Full-Bodied Reds. Keeping in line with the Pantone color of the year — marsala — rich reds like crimson and claret are at the top of our list for fall.

White Out. In case you didn’t get the memo, white is no longer just for summer. Rules are made to be broken, especially antiquated ones. We’re seeing head-to-toe, all-white ensembles for fall and winter. Flattering and oh-so-elegant.

Modern Fur. Whether you prefer the real deal or faux, fur is a staple. It adds a dose of high glamour to any outfit, from jeans to your favorite date-night dress. Vests are especially wearable and versatile for everyday.

Flare Pants. The pant silhouette of the season, we are seeing flares from narrow to super-wide in fabrics like wool, tweed and our beloved denim. Note that flares do look better with a heel and make your legs look longer and leaner.

Saddle Bags & Chunky Heels. Fall’s best accessories are also ’70s inspired — notice a theme? Chunky heels, platforms and shoes embellished with fringe are back in soft suedes, animal prints and rich colors. Saddle Bags are so ’70s and yet so now, especially the styles by Chloe. How gorgeous is this patchwork python??

Ear Candy. Earrings are being dressed up with edgy cuffs, jackets, huggies and crawlers. It’s an easy way to add pizzazz to your everyday studs. We’re especially digging the styles by Dannijo.

Well-Dressed Leg. Tights and stockings in lace and fishnet are the perfect way to complete your look and add texture to basics. We particularly love the look with booties, shooties and boots.

Now we just need the weather to cooperate and cool down a tad…
