Dazzling Holiday Style from Casual to Glam

Dressing chic, appropriate and “photo-op” ready is particularly challenging during the holiday season. As moms, we are being pulled in all directions and our already hectic schedules go into hyper-drive this time of year. Whatever events and traditions you may have in store, MSL has solutions to help define your wardrobe choices for your kid’s winter concert, a school parent get-together, going to see the Nutcracker, church activities, family dinners, festive cocktail parties, and formal events – whew, we could keep going as the potential list is long. And don’t forget about ringing in 2014! The key to less stress is putting together a few “go-to” ensembles for each event type, so the result will be you only more fabulous for all the memorable holiday moments we are about to experience.

Hanging Out with the Kids

Comfort and mobility are key for opening presents with our kids (and pets) and playing with their new beloved items. Of course, during the momentous present opening time, there will also be a lot of photos snapped, so wear something chic, but comfy, and festive. No, festive does not mean red and green! Metallics and jewel tones (including red and emerald green by themselves) all will get you in the holiday spirit without looking cheesy. And please retire the novelty holiday sweater and jingle bell earrings your grandma gave you unless you are trying to win an ugly sweater contest.

Festive Family Dinners

You can look stylish and party-ready, but still be comfortable enough for sitting down to break bread with your family and friends. Knits and jerseys are easy to wear, wrinkle-free, and will expand with your waistline while you over-indulge on holiday favorites, wine and desserts (bonus!).  Darker colors – solid or patterned — are preferable so spills aren’t as noticeable when your kid accidently bumps your wine glass. Pair with a pair of glitzy flats or boots so you can run around after your kids on their holiday sugar-high.

Cocktail Party Princess

What screams holiday soiree louder than a faux fur capelet, a dazzling statement necklace, and gorgeous jewel-toned party dress with a plunging back?  LOVE. Dress for a night of celebration out with adults and leave the kids with a babysitter. Don’t forget to build in some well-deserved, pre-party pamper time for a nail appointment and indulge in a fabulous up-do for a complete look.

Formal Flair

Whether you’re headed to a formal gala or dressing up to ring in the new year, an elegant long gown will put you in the mood to toast with a glass of bubbly. Cut-outs and embellishments are two trends in holiday dressing we are embracing with our fashion-loving hearts right now, and frankly, when are they ever not showstoppers? Take everyone’s breath away when you step out in an uber-flattering jersey gown with exquisite beadwork. Bonus: No accessories needed.
