Angela’s Lab | Spring Break Part 1 – Seattle

One of my family’s regular destinations when on a break or vacation is Seattle. It’s my own beloved hometown and when it’s sunny (mid-July through mid-October is the best time to go) there is no place more beautiful. Not only are the mountains and water stunning, but the city itself and surrounding area has a terrific personality and sense of self. Admittedly, fashion takes on a more practical focus due to the elements 9 months out of the year — who wants to ruin their suede Chanel booties after all! So we packed our more practical moto boots and Hello Kitty rain boots for a week in the Northwest.

However, in the last decade or so with the end of the grunge look that started in Seattle with the underground music scene and the high-tech boom, fashion and designer brands have a big presence and fan base in the Emerald City. Not to mention, Seattle is home base for Nordstrom, one of my favorite places to shop.

One of my go-to boutiques, La Ree, is located in downtown Bellevue (across Lake Washington from Seattle) and boasts brands like 3.1 Phillip Lim, Loeffler Randall, Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, Isabel Marant, Yigel Azrouel, Rag & Bone, the list goes on. From key wardrobe pieces to statement accessories, the shop’s collection is well-edited and the friendly staff knowledgeable.

In addition to shopping, the Northwest has so many activities to partake in, from outdoor sports and boating to an impressive arts & culture scene. We actually spent half of our trip on the slopes at nearby Snoqualmie Pass teaching our daughter to ski. (She was skiing circles around me by the second day and told me that she would be happy to give me some tips…)

When in the Seattle area, we always stay at the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland. It’s the only hotel on the shores of Lake Washington and we love everything about it, from the gorgeous views, lakeside dining and boat rentals to the incredible people that work there and the hotel dog, Woody Meg. (Can you tell it was St. Patrick’s Day??)
