Ask MSL | Outfit Inspo for Fourth of July

Q: My family hosts a big Fourth of July barbecue and celebration at our home every year. Do you have any ideas for casual and patriotic, yet stylish and cute, outfits? — Maryanne

A: Ah, we love the Fourth of July! Our nation’s birthday brings out patriotism and pride in our country like no other holiday.  We have several styling tips that will ensure your look says “I’m proud to be an American” without looking cheesy. In other words, just say “no” to the striped top with star-print shorts — leave that for the kids. And good news, we found a ton of pieces on sale!

Use denim as the base for your look, then add red and/or white as accent colors.

Dress, Ulla Johnson (On sale!) // Shoes, Tommy Hilfiger (On sale for only $30!) // Sunglasses, Ray-Ban

Stripes are chic in the form of a shirt dress and can be paired with sneakers or strappy sandals.

Dress, Mango (On sale for only $50!) // Sneakers, Frye // Earrings, Kendra Scott

When wearing “red, white & blue” keep one color as your primary base and use the other two as accents via accessories.

Jumpsuit, Zimmermann (On sale 70% off!) // Earrings, Baublebar // Sunnies, Saint Laurent // Sandals, Stuart Weitzman

Star-spangled pieces can be classy! These statement earrings are perfection and don’t compete with the subtle starbursts on the top.

Top, Madewell (Just $55 on sale) // Shorts, Current/Elliott // Sandals, Christian Louboutin // Earrings, Jennifer Zeuner // Sunglasses

Gingham screams Americana. This retro print is so on-trend right now and extra flattering as a wrap dress.

Dress, Diane von Furstenberg (On sale!) // Shoes, Aquazzura (On sale!) // Cuff, Kendra Scott

Bonus! The great thing about all of these outfits is they have staying power and can be worn all summer long.
