Mom Muse | Sabrina Posillico

MSL is excited to introduce our first Mom Muse for 2014! We have been smitten with Sabrina Posillico and her company, Healing Anthropology, for several years now and who better to inspire us to take better care of ourselves in the new year and embrace a healthier lifestyle than this super-achiever mom?

After noticing a gap in the beauty market for truly all-natural skin care products, Sabrina decided to do something about it by creating Healing Anthropology, a 100% all-natural (absolutely NOTHING synthetic) skin care line. We are big fans at MSL. Like so many moms and moms-to-be, we became hyper-aware of everything we were putting on and in our bodies once we became pregnant and subsequently had children, and Healing Anthropology offers amazing skin, body and baby care lines.

Married for 10 years, Sabrina is mother to two darling kids — 2 ½ year-old Liliana and 9 month-old Karsten. Oh, and did we mention this very busy mom also models for The Agency Arizona? We find her accomplishments and whimsical approach to fashion and style oh-so-inspiring.

Q:  Describe your style in five words or less.

Eclectic, edgy, fashion-forward.

Q: What inspired you to start your business?

I lost several family members to cancer and after some research and genetic testing, realized it was mainly due to environmental factors.  I wanted to limit the exposure to chemicals in my life.  I really wanted clean products for my skin, because everything you put on is absorbed into your body.  I couldn’t find any without chemicals so I decided to make my own.

Q:  What’s the one item in your closet you can’t live without, that makes you feel both chic and comfortable?

My Chanel tweed jacket. It can be dressed up or down, styled in any way, and is completely timeless.

Q:  Do you have any tips on how you streamline your morning routine?

I always spend a few minutes as I’m lying in bed the night before putting an outfit together in my head, because for me, that’s what can take the longest while getting ready.

Q:  Fashion often comes with a price tag stigma. Do you have any advice for moms who have Jimmy Choo dreams, but a Target budget?

Target actually has some great capsule collections from fabulous designers now.  If you want something timeless, that’s the time to invest a bit more. There are a lot of options for getting designer goods at great prices, including My Sister’s Closet, Nordstrom Rack, Last Call, Off 5th, Last Chance and Ebay. I rarely pay full retail — I love a great deal too much!

Q:  Developing a unique style comes at an early age for some children. Do you let your children choose what they’re going to wear? How do you talk about getting dressed with your little ones?

I let Liliana choose from a few options. I know some people think that’s stifling their creativity, but I just can’t have her walking around with two different color shoes and an inside-out shirt!  I explain to her how we wear different types of clothing to different places.  She gets excited about new clothes and shoes.   I’m not sure if it’s because she sees me excited about fashion or if it’s just inherent (I loved fashion from as far back as I can remember), but she really likes to talk about what she’s wearing and show off new shoes or clothes.  Recently we were at the doctor’s office, and she had strep throat with a 104 degree fever.  When he came in she said, “I’m a little sick, my throat hurts badly,” immediately followed by, “Look at my new shoes!”

Q:  What’s your best style advice for other moms out there?

To not lose their sense of personal style, which is very easy to do after having kids.  My son spit up everyday 20-30 times for eight months.  I got very tired of not being able to wear any nice shirts for fear of them being ruined, so I went online and order six fun tops from Forever21.  It was a great way to feel fashionable without worrying too much about my clothes getting ruined.
