Angela’s Lab | Beauty Finds & Flirty Skirts

photo[4]This past Saturday I had the pleasure of being the guest judge for the annual Beauty Face-Off competition at Neiman Marcus Scottsdale! There were so many amazingly-talented makeup artists showing off their skills and new fall collections on the lucky ladies being made over that I had a very difficult time choosing a winner. The primary theme for the looks being created (and a major trend this season according to style guru Ken Downing) was SPARKLE! So as the judge, I was looking for glowing skin, subtle shimmer and well-placed sparkle. At the end of the timed competition, makeup artist Chris Valenzuela of Tom Ford Beauty prevailed! What put his look into the winning position was the incredibly dramatic, sparkly eyes he created with Tom Ford’s Cognac Sable eyeshadow palette. Love. After the competition, I had him create the same eyes on me (see photo above) and I basked in the numerous compliments thrown my way throughout the day. Needless to say, I picked up the eyeshadow quad, new blush, Spanish Pink lipstick and Rose Crush gloss, all in the hopes of achieving the same gorgeous glow at home.

It was a busy day at Neiman Marcus and in addition to the Beauty Event, I attended the CUSP Fall Fashion Show. On top of the preview of fabulous looks for the season, the lucky fashionistas in attendance were also wowed by music sensation Nik West. (My daughter Christina had fun meeting her!)

Here are some of my favorite looks that were on the runway.

This rock-star-inspired, sequin Alice+Olivia skirt works for day or night. Love how it’s edged up with a tee, statement necklace and python clutch.

The glam boho look with this need-it-now Joie vest (or here’s a gorg faux fur option) and love this Diane von Furstenberg print.

Sophisticated, classic pencil skirt and boots updated with a cropped chunky Alice+Olivia knit. Perfect for my next trip to New York.

Nothing classes up leather leggings quicker than a tailored blazer by Theory with ruffle-detail. And there’s that crisp white shirt we need for, well, everything.

Oh, and where does the “flirty skirt” reference in the headline tie into this post?? Why the flirty skirt I wore to the event of course! Feminine, flattering cut and the nude color is the perfect neutral to modernize your look. I bought it in navy too.

A huge thank you to Neiman Marcus and the Scottsdale beauty team for inviting me to be a part of the event and all of their support!
