How to Dress for Sporting Events
It’s that time of year. Whether you have a sports team that you act as “12th Man” for or even if the Oscars are your “Super Bowl,” chances are you’re gearing up for a major event either at home or at a specific venue. Since full body paint didn’t make it onto the runway this year and hats with slivers of cheese aren’t necessarily considered “sporting event chic,” we have some options that will get you through a win or a loss and keep you in the clear as far as what not to wear.
1. Stadium Game
We love the look of layers when dressing for a stadium event. Not only are the elements unpredictable, but it also gives a jersey a fresh look and sets you apart from similar-looking fans. Try some skinny jeans, your favorite team jersey, and a chambray shirt underneath to class it up a little. Basic flats or white Converse sneakers are both appropriate and cute. Another option is a vintage sports tee with a great blazer on top. Roll the sleeves up, and you’ve got a look that’s casual and different with a little more polish.
2. Golf Tournament
Whether it’s themed or not, golf tournaments are a blast and there’s great energy when you’re following your favorite sure-shooter around. For all you Phoenix residents, the Waste Management Open is happening this week and dressing in green not only benefits charity, but is the overarching theme for the tournament. If you’re not daring enough to go green all over, choose an accent piece like a statement necklace or scarf to go with something basic. If you’re just heading out to a tournament that doesn’t have a color theme, a neutral dress and comfortable, yet cute, flats or wedges will serve you perfectly for walking from hole to hole and quietly clapping like a lady (fore!).
3. Super Bowl Party
OK, so your team choked in the playoffs or didn’t even finish at the top of their conference. Now you’re forced to choose from Denver Bronco colors, orange and navy, or the lively color combo of the Seattle Seahawks, navy and neon green. If you aren’t planning on “fair-weather fan-ing” it, let us suggest something cute and practical for being the hostess or a guest. Choose a pair of boyfriend or dark skinny jeans, a knit top, and maybe some tall flat boots or stylish flats on your feet. You can also go with a printed top that has some team colors in it – making you occasion-appropriate but still true to your style.
