Mom Muse | Destry Jetton
Host of the popular lifestyle show Arizona Midday on NBC Channel 12, Destry Jetton leads a glamorous work life, travelling to exotic locales for shoots and interviewing celebrities. To her two kids, Hayden (8) and Blythe (6), she’s simply mom and has been married to her high school sweetheart for the last 24 years. Her ability to balance a demanding career (and always look stylish and sunny on camera!), while putting her family first and rarely missing one of her kids’ activities, is nothing short of inspirational.
One of seven children, Destry has a twin sister and grew up in Tempe, Arizona. She always knew she wanted to be on TV, and while majoring in broadcasting at Arizona State University had a regular pet segment on cable access for the Arizona Animal Welfare League. After graduation, Destry started her television career in St. Joseph, Missouri, and then moved to Waco, Texas, followed by Tucson, Arizona prior to joining Channel 12 in 2007.
In her spare time, Destry loves to read, hike and travel with her family, her favorite destination being the beach. Her dream vacation would be to have a month off in Hawaii with her family… ahhh, Destry, we are so with you!!
MSL: Describe your style in five words or less.
Classy & casual.
MSL: What inspired you to go into broadcasting?
I wanted to know more about the world and I wanted to share that with others!
MSL: What do you like best about your job? The biggest challenge?
I love meeting new people and learning new things. I’ve had the privilege of covering amazing stories, such as a presidential visit and interviewing Hollywood movie stars and celebrities.
The biggest challenge is LIVE TV — anything can happen. One time I had to chase an ostrich in the snow!

MSL: What’s the one item in your closet you can’t live without, that makes you feel both chic and comfortable?
My dark denim, skinny jeans. They fit perfectly and can be dressed up or down.
MSL: Whose style do you most admire and draw inspiration from?
Jennifer Aniston and Lupita Nyong’o. They always look chic and stylish, both on and off the red carpet, and have such a warm, approachable way about them.
MSL: Fashion often comes with a price tag stigma. Do you have any advice for moms who have Jimmy Choo dreams, but a Target budget?
I don’t care where it comes from as long as it fits well. I think the biggest tip is to try things on! I also think bright solids are great anywhere and for any situation. One of my favorite dresses is a turquoise, A-line dress from Target!
MSL: Do you have any tips on how you streamline your morning routine?
My goal is to pick my outfit the day before. If I do that, everything else falls into place.
MSL: Developing a unique style comes at an early age for some children. Do you let your children choose what they’re going to wear? How do you talk about getting dressed with them?
My daughter and I have a negotiation. She picks some days and I pick some days. I want her to have her own style, but I also want her to try new things. She used to hate dresses, but I bought her a few maxi dresses, she tried them, and now she loves them. Experimentation is part of the fun of fashion! I also always give away anything that doesn’t fit or I really don’t like, so she won’t choose it.
MSL: What’s your best style advice for other working moms out there?
I think bright solid-colored dresses are the best. They make you stand out, look great and they’re easy to style! Add a statement necklace and you feel put together in five minutes. That’s for work. At home, I feel great when I have on a white tee, cute scarf, skinny jeans and a statement watch.
