Fashion Empowering Women: New Nordstrom + Piece & Co. Collaboration
At MSL, we love supporting a fashionable “shop for a cause” project, and this one takes the concept one step further by empowering women through work. Today, Nordstrom unveiled the Nordstrom + Piece & Co. special collection, a capsule group of women’s clothing and accessories created in conjunction with eight of our favorite brands, including Alice + Olivia, Current/Elliott, DVF, Joie, Rebecca Minkoff, Theory, The Honest Company, and Tory Burch.
What’s Piece & Co. you ask? Well, the company was founded in 2011 by Kathleen Wright and works to provide sustainable employment opportunities to struggling female artisans. The company has created thousands of jobs for women in more than 30 developing countries by connecting their particular talent with major brands. With just one order, between 75 and 100 artisans can be employed for up to three months, helping move their families and communities away from poverty!

Each brand worked closely with Piece & Co. to source handmade materials and fabrics from artisans located across the globe and through this project alone they were able to create more than 5,000 jobs. Women from countries, such as India, Mexico and Zambia who specialize in design techniques like ikat, tie-dye and batik, were part of the project.

In addition to the jobs created and women helped, the best part is the pieces in the collection are darling, reasonably priced and perfect for spring! We chose a few of our favorites and show below how we’re going to be styling them this season.
And you can’t go wrong with a boho scarf from Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company to throw on with your stand-by tee or a ethnic-print bag by accessories guru Rebecca Minkoff.
The entire Nordstrom + Piece & Co. collection can be found online and in select Nordstrom stores, from Scottsdale and Seattle to New York and Florida.
What better excuse to shop for spring than to make a difference in the lives of hard-working women in need?
