An Insider’s Look at the Golden Globes
One of our beautiful inside-and-out Mom Muses, international supermodel and children’s advocate Micheline Etkin is a red carpet regular and attended the Golden Globes in LA on Sunday. She was kind enough to give us an insider’s look at what it’s like to be a part of this celebrity-studded, ultra-glamorous, Hollywood fete. We chatted with her about what it takes to get ready for the red carpet and memorable event moments, plus got an update on what’s new in her life.

MSL: You’ve been attending for years — what is your favorite part of the Golden Globes?
My favorite part is that it is a genuine, fun party that lasts for hours, starting on the red carpet through to all the after parties. This is the one Hollywood event that never has a dull moment.

MSL: Who was your date(s) for the event?
Always my husband, Dr Bruce Etkin. Plus, my son Richard Kirkland joined us this year, which was so much fun!

MSL: Did anything funny or memorable happen on the red carpet or during the event?
There are always so many memorable moments every year. One that stood out this year for me was to watch how emotional it was for Lady Gaga and Sylvester Stallone to win their Golden Globe awards. Besides the host’s humor, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling had a very funny moment on stage.
Also, it was exciting for me to see more Brazilians on the red carpet this year! Top model Carol Ribeiro with TNT Brazil was there and actor Wagner Moura, who was nominated for his role in the Netflix series Narcos, was seated in front of us.

MSL: Your gown is stunning. Tell us all about it and the rest of your look!
The gown was by a Lebanese designer named Fouad Sarkis. I loved the yellow! Oscar De Las Salas did the styling (he also styled my handsome husband). Oscar called it “sunshine.” The gown was very comfortable, an important detail when you have to be in it for 10 hours. My hair and makeup were done by Julie Koeth. Julie created deep waves to add a Old Hollywood glam look. Lots and lots of hairspray was applied to keep the waves in place for that many hours. My jewelry also came from Lebanon. A beautiful and colorful combination of precious and semi-precious stones, set in rose gold. I loved the Elephant clutch as a final touch.

MSL: How long does it take you to get ready for a red carpet appearance? Any special “get glam” secrets you can share?
The process of getting ready takes about 3 1/2 hours for me (my husband only 10 minutes). But the true preparation starts three months in advance when Oscar and I sit down and talk about how I want to look for the event. We discuss options for colors, silhouette, materials and style. Once we determine what we want, then we start the search. The gown is the most important piece of the entire look. Then we select shoes, accessories, and hair and makeup. It’s still possible that we will make changes at the last minute though. The getting ready process in my hotel room becomes a party. Even a photo shoot happens on the way out by Oscar to approve the final look. We are always running late.
My best “get glam” secret is the amazing iS Clinical Youth Intensive Creme on my face and eyes for hydration the night before and again before makeup. (We are SO buying this.) I always use the feather-shaped corner eyelashes for a pop.

MSL: Who was your “best-dressed celebrity” choice of the evening?
Jennifer Lawrence — she was so glamorous! (Yes, she was! JLaw made our best-dressed list too.)
MSL: On a separate note, it’s been a year since we profiled you as a Mom Muse and we know that, in addition to modeling with The Agency Arizona, you are super active as an advocate for children. Any news or updates you’d like to share regarding your causes or future plans? Anything new on a personal front?
I’m planning on going to Buenos Aires in May for the International Children’s Palliative Care Network’s conference as their International Ambassador. This conference will be addressing the urgent need for the development and growth of the discipline to reach the 21 million children who need palliative care NOW. I will also be going to Fortaleza, Brazil to visit the children who we raise the money for with our Casa Brazil fund-raising events in Arizona.
On a personal front, I’m very excited to eminently become a grandmother. I am counting the minutes to see and feel the amazing blessing that God is sending our family! (Congratulations!! We can’t wait to see pictures of your beautiful grandbaby!)
